What Makes a Christmas Hamper a Bestseller

After a few seasons of watching what sells, the pattern is consistent. The hampers that do well are the ones people can picture being opened. They balance something savoury, something sweet and something to drink, they arrive looking like more than the money spent, and they suit more than one person in the room.

The ones that don't sell tend to be either too narrow, built around a single flavour nobody's certain the recipient likes, or too padded, where the box is large and the contents are thin. We've stopped making both.

Price matters less than people expect. Our best-selling hamper is not our cheapest and is nowhere near our most expensive. It sits at £36.50, and the next three all fall between £42 and £48, which is roughly what people are comfortable spending on someone they like but aren't related to.

Our Most-Ordered Christmas Hampers

Based on orders placed between October and December, these were the hampers that sold most.

  • Three Cheese Hamper, £36.50. Our number one, and it isn't close. Three Mouse House cheddars including caramelised onion, smoked and cranberry. It outsold everything else by more than two to one, and almost every order was a single hamper, so this is a lot of individual people independently arriving at the same answer.
  • The Celebration, £47.50. A bottle of Merlot with sweet and savoury treats, and our second-best seller. The one people choose when they don't know the recipient's tastes well and want something that will land regardless.
  • Wine & Treats Gift Box, £42.50. The one corporate buyers keep coming back to, and it sells just as well to individuals. Reliable rather than showy.
  • Beer Advent Calendar, £113.00. Twenty-four cans from UK independent breweries, and bought one at a time by thirty different households last December. See the full range of alcohol advent calendars if you want wine or spirits instead.
  • Elegance Sparkling, £62.00. Prosecco, luxury chocolates and gourmet treats in a gold gift box. The one people choose when the gift needs to look like an occasion.
  • The Celebration with White Wine, £47.50. The same hamper as our number two, with La Deliziosa Pinot Grigio instead of the Merlot.

Two more sold strongly last Christmas and return to the range in October: the Classic Christmas Gift Box, which had the highest average order value of anything we sold, and its alcohol-free version, which sold almost entirely to people buying one at a time. The Joybells also returns.

Best Christmas Hampers by Budget

Most Christmas gifting sits between £30 and £60, and our bestsellers cluster tightly in that band.

  • Around £25 to £35. Focused on one theme and done properly. Better for colleagues, Secret Santa and teachers than a larger hamper padded out to hit a price.
  • £35 to £50. Where most of our bestsellers sit. A bottle plus a proper spread of food, which is the point at which a hamper stops feeling like a token.
  • £50 to £75. Bigger bottles, more of everything, and presentation that does some of the work for you.
  • £75 and up. Sharing hampers built for a household rather than a person, and the advent calendars.

Free UK delivery is included at every price, so the number you see is the number you pay.

Best Christmas Hampers by Recipient

If you already know who it's for, that's usually a faster route than browsing by price.

Best Alcohol-Free Christmas Hampers

Worth calling out separately, because the alcohol-free version of our Classic Christmas Gift Box sold to almost as many individual customers as the standard one. That surprised us, and it has changed how much of the range we build without alcohol. Use the "No Alcohol" filter above to see the current options.

When to Order

The bestsellers are the first to sell through, usually by the first week of December. The last confirmed day for pre-Christmas delivery is 22 December, for orders placed before 1pm, but the popular hampers rarely last that long. Full timings are on our delivery and returns page.

Best Christmas Hampers: Frequently Asked Questions

Our most-ordered Christmas hamper is the Three Cheese Hamper at £36.50, with three Mouse House cheddars including caramelised onion, smoked and cranberry. It outsells everything else in the range by more than two to one. If you would rather send wine, The Celebration at £47.50 is our second-best seller, and if the recipient does not drink, the alcohol-free Classic Christmas Gift Box is the equivalent choice.

Between £30 and £60 covers most Christmas gifting, and that is where our bestsellers sit. Our top four all fall between £36 and £62. Around £35 buys a focused hamper on one theme, £45 to £60 buys a bottle plus a proper spread of food, and above £75 you are into sharing hampers built for a household. Free UK delivery is included at every price.

Across our range, cheese leads, followed by wine-based hampers in the £40 to £50 bracket. Chocolate-led hampers sell well but to a narrower audience, because buyers worry about repeating what someone has already been given.

Not automatically, but they tend to be the ones we have refined most. A hamper that sells well gets reviewed, re-costed and adjusted every year, so the contents are usually the most tested in the range.

Yes, usually in the first week of December. We forecast stock in June against the previous year's orders, so the popular lines are ordered deep, but they still go. Ordering in November is the safest way to get the one you want.
