What Is in a Christmas Food Hamper

A Christmas food hamper holds three things: something savoury, something sweet, something to drink. Ours run to caramelised onion, smoked and cranberry cheddars, Cartwright & Butler biscuits and oatcakes, Monty Bojangles and Lily O'Brien's chocolates, and a bottle of Merlot, Pinot Grigio or Bottega prosecco depending on the box.

Opened together they should add up to more than the parts. A smoked cheddar against a sweet chutney, oatcakes to carry both, chocolate to finish and something cold to drink alongside it.

Food hampers for Christmas split two ways. Some get opened on the day. Others go out early as Christmas gift hampers, posted to people you will not see over the holiday. A Christmas dinner hamper is a third job, sized for the table.

We buy direct from UK producers and small suppliers. Everything gets tasted before it goes on sale. If an item does not earn its place we drop it, which is why the range shifts a little each year.

A hamper is the wrong gift when you already know exactly what someone wants. It is the right one when you do not. That is most of the time, and it is why they sell hardest for colleagues, in-laws and people you like without knowing their taste in detail.

Our Most-Ordered Christmas Hampers

Three hampers took the largest share of orders last Christmas. The Three Cheese Hamper at £36.50, with caramelised onion, smoked and cranberry cheddars. The Celebration at £47.50. The Wine & Treats Gift Box at £42.50.

Cheese led, which surprises people who assume Christmas means chocolate. The full ranking, with what each one holds and who it suits, is on our best Christmas hampers page.

Christmas Hampers by Budget

The average Christmas hamper people send is around £60. Here is what each band buys.

Christmas hampers by budget
Budget What you get Best for
Under £30 A letterbox box that posts through the door, one theme done properly Teachers, Secret Santa, colleagues
£30 to £50 A full hamper with a bottle and a proper spread of food Friends, family, most gifting
£50 to £100 A bigger box, a better bottle, and the sharing hampers built for a household Parents, in-laws, whole families
£100 and over The largest sharing hampers and premium wicker baskets Clients, when it really matters

Free UK delivery is included at every price, with no minimum spend. The number you see is the number you pay. Christmas hampers under £50 covers most Secret Santa limits.

Christmas Hampers by Recipient

Most people arrive knowing who they are buying for. Fewer know what should be in the box.

If you already know their weakness, start here.

Unusual Christmas Hampers

Festive hampers do not have to arrive in a wicker basket. Our unusual hampers cover the less predictable end: working wooden advent clocks you keep and refill each year, a reusable insulated cool bag packed with cheese, a galvanised bucket of craft beer. They tend to be the ones people photograph.

If you would sooner let them choose, gift vouchers arrive by email and do not expire mid-season.

Christmas Hamper Delivery and Cut Off Dates

The last confirmed day for pre-Christmas delivery is 22 December, for orders placed before 1pm. Order earlier if you can. The popular hampers sell through in the first week of December and the courier network slows as the day gets closer.

Free UK delivery comes as standard on every hamper, with no minimum spend. Named-day delivery runs Monday to Friday. Multi-address delivery lets you send to a list of people from one checkout, and each carries a free 240-character gift message. Full timings and exclusions sit on our delivery and returns page.

Each December we send hampers to our own staff. It is the only reliable way to find out what the delivery actually feels like at the far end.

Ordering close to the cut off? Christmas letterbox gifts are the safer bet. They fit through a standard letterbox, so there is no missed delivery card and no trip to a depot on 23 December.

Christmas Food Hampers: Frequently Asked Questions

A good Christmas hamper holds something savoury such as cheese, crackers or chutney, something sweet such as chocolate or biscuits, and something to drink. The ones that disappoint stake everything on a single flavour, or pad the box out with filler to justify its size.

Across our range, cheese leads. Then wine hampers in the £40 to £50 bracket, then chocolate. Our single best-selling hamper is the Three Cheese Hamper at £36.50, which holds caramelised onion, smoked and cranberry cheddars. The full ranking is on our best Christmas hampers page, ordered by what customers actually bought.

Yes. Around a fifth of the Christmas range contains no alcohol at all. Those hampers hold chocolates, biscuits, savoury snacks and soft drinks in place of the bottle, at the same prices. Use the "No Alcohol" filter above the grid to see what is in stock.

The final cut off is 1pm on 22 December, our last confirmed posting day before Christmas. The popular hampers usually sell through in the first week of December, so November is safer. Shopping late? Christmas letterbox gifts fit through a standard letterbox with no missed delivery.

Yes. Multi address delivery lets you send different hampers to different people in one checkout. It is what most staff and client gifting runs on. For larger volumes see corporate Christmas hampers, where bulk orders start at twenty.

Around £60 is the average people spend, but there is no fixed rule. Around £30 buys one theme done properly. £30 to £50 gets a bottle alongside a full spread of food. £50 to £100 moves into bigger sharing hampers, and above £100 the premium wicker. Free UK delivery applies at every price.
